Indian Head Massage
As part of the ayurvedic healing tradition, Indian Head
Massage has
been practiced in India for over 1000 years, in order to keep hair and
scalp healthy and beautiful. It also helps relieve stress, which has
accumulated in the tissues of the head, face, neck, shoulders and upper
arms. By encouraging lymphatic drainage and improving blood circulation
throughout the scalp, it helps remove toxins from the head and neck
– stimulating, invigorating and smoothing away tension and
tightness.
A deeply calming and relaxing therapy, Indian Head Massage is
performed with the person fully clothed, and usually seated. A range of
different movements is used to knead and compress shoulder and scalp
area, as well as gently stroke and stimulate pressure points on the
face.

Although Indian Head Massage only reached the West in the 1970's, it has been used by Indian families for relaxation and healing on a daily basis for over 1,000 years.
Some patients may experience an increasing desire to urinate, as the body is eliminating toxins and waste products. Occasionally aching muscles, tiredness and rarely dizziness may be experienced after a treatment. This does not usually not persist for more than a couple of hours, after which an increase and energy should be experienced.
Care should be taken in cases of osteoporosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue, spondylitis or spondylosis of the neck, painful cysts, psoriasis and weeping eczema. Indian Head Massage should be avoided if the patient is suffering from aneurosa.
