Tuina & Acupressure

Introduction to Tuina

Chinese therapeutic massage is known as Tuina. It is based on the same principles as Acupuncture. Although Tuina works along the meridian system and enhances its effectiveness by specific manual stimulation of Acupuncture points, its also focuses on muscles, tendons, joints, and other tissue adjacent to the Acupuncture meridians.

Tuina applies massage techniques such as pressure, rubbing, percussion and lifting. Although its focus goes very deep, we use a rather soft and smooth treatment approach, which makes it especially suitable for children and the elderly.

A substantial part of a Tuina treatment can be active and assisted manipulation of joints and tissue, e.g. stretching, rotating and other related techniques.

Acupressure

Acupressure is also based on the same concepts but focuses much more on specific Acupuncture channels and directed point activation by hands, fingers, derma rollers or probes.

How do Acupressure and Tuina work?

Acupressure and Tuina work on the same energetic levels as Acupuncture without using Acupuncture needles. Please refer to the relevant  Acupuncture section for more details.

What can be treated with Tuina and Acupressure?

Tuina and Acupressure can address similar conditions to Acupuncture. However, the best treatment outcomes are often achieved by selectively combining Acupuncture with some Tuina and Acupressure.

Treatment & Conultation

When we see you for the first time, we spend time talking about you, the development of your complaint, and your treatment aim. After this has been explored we establish a treatment plan outlining how many, and how frequently, you would approximately need treatments to help you resolve your condition.

The amount of treatments and their frequency depends on your presenting condition. It is hard to provide general guidelines since every person is different and presents with different needs.

Please contact us with some details about your complaint so we can answer your questions more appropriately.

Who can be treated?

Acupressure and Tuina is generally suitable for everyone, but in particular useful for treating children and those in the golden years.
