Acupuncture techniques
Electro-acupuncture is a fairly new technique within Acupuncture therapy. A pair of needles is connected to an Electro-acupuncture device. Then a light electric current flows from one needle to the other. It has a great therapeutic effect to alleviate muscular-skeletal pain such as back pain, tendonitis, knee pain, and other strains and sprains.
It is a safe method, however training and experience of the practitioner is required.
Ear acupuncture is the stimulation of specific points on the ear with very fine needles. It is a wonderful method to support body acupuncture, or to use it in conditions when body acupuncture is either limited or not possible. Alternatively or additionally ear seeds can be used.
It is a safe treatment method, often used for psycho-emotional conditions, pain, nicotine/ smoking addictions, and depression and anxiety.
Moxibustion is the burning of herbs over Acupuncture points and along acupuncture meridians. The so called 'Moxa' can be either in form of a 'Moxa' stick moved along the meridians by the practitioner, cones on top of an Acupuncture needle, or cones directly on the skin usually separated by a mediator.
'Moxa' has great effects for many pain condition and a outstanding warming and nourishing impact, and patients experience 'Moxa' as pleasant and relieving.
The practitioner needs experience and training to practice this technique safely. In cases of Asthma or fevers 'Moxa' may not be used.
Cupping therapy is the application of suction cups to address conditions such as muscle pains, colds, fevers, or asthma. It can either be used to clear excess conditions or promote blood circulation and nourish Qi.
The application is very safe, but may lead to bruising in the area applied. Possible bruising is a normal side effect of the treatment and usually disappears within a few days.
Patients often find this therapy and the benefits it has on their condition very enjoyable. Practitioners need training and experience to apply the therapy safely.
Gua Sha is a scrapping technique using a special Gua Sha massage device. It is mainly used to treat migraines and headaches; neck, back and shoulder pain; colds, chills and fevers. Its usage is safe, although it can cause redness in the area of usage, which generally disappears within a day.
