Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a substantial part of Chinese medicine and has become increasingly known to address a wide range of different conditions which conventional medicine has been ineffective in treating. It uses very fine and sterile single-use needles which are inserted into specific Acupuncture points covering the human body.
In China and other Eastern cultures Acupuncture has been practised and developed for over 2000 years and is often supplemented with Moxibustion, Chinese therapeutic massage (Tuina), cupping therapy, and Qi Gong exercises.
In modern practice Acupuncture also uses the benefits of Ear Acupuncture, Electro-Acupuncture, and Ear seeds.
In classic Chinese medicine a network of meridians covers the human body, hosting a vast number of Acupuncture points. These channels transport and distribute energy (Qi or Chi), blood, and body fluids between the internal organs and all other parts of the body, nourishing muscles, bones, skin and other tissues.
Obstructions and blockages within this network result in malnourishment of, or energy accumulation in, affected body parts. This in turn results in disorders from low energy and tiredness to chronic and acute pains of all natures.
Depending on the locations of Acupuncture points, they have an unique impact onto the meridian network. Their individual stimulation helps to clear blockages and promote and supply nourishment of affected parts of the human system.
What can be treated with Acupuncture?
Since Acupuncture is part of a complete medical system it can be used to address a wide range of problems and conditions.
When we see you for the first time, we spend time talking about you, the development of your complaint, and your treatment aim. After this has been explored we establish a treatment plan outlining how many, and how frequently, you would approximately need treatments to help you resolve your condition.
The amount of treatments and their frequency depends on your presenting condition. It is hard to provide general guidelines since every person is different and presents with different needs.
Please contact us with some details about your complaint so we can answer your questions more appropriately.
Acupuncture is generally suitable for everyone and can be used for all age groups.
When inserting the needles through the skin you may feel a pricking sensation that normally disappears within a few seconds. However, some points may be more intense, or some patients react more sensitively. The sensation of the activated Acupuncture points can sometimes be strong, but we do our best and practice to our highest skills to make the treatment as smooth as possible.
